Description: The objective of the “Gold mineralization in the Guiana Shield” field trip is to give participants an overview of the geology and metallogeny of the exceptionally well-endowed Guiana Shield with an emphasis on the geologic setting of gold. This field trip provides an overview of greenstone belts of Guiana and Suriname including three mine visits associated with gold deposits at the Karouni (Guyana), the Rosebel (Suriname), and Merian (Suriname) mines and core review followed by wrap up meeting and discussion on gold deposits on the last day.
Dates: August 13th to August 18th, 2017
Starting Point: Georgetown, Guiana, South America.
* Participants must arrive to Georgetown (Guiana) before 5 PM on August 13th
Ending Point: Georgetown, Guiana, South America
* Arrival in Georgetown late pm and wrap-up + overnight August 17th. Participants should travel the next day to Toronto en route to Québec City for the SGA conference.

* Includes air transportation from Georgetown and back to Georgetown, ground transportation for the entire field trip, accommodation in single occupancy, all meals, and field trip guidebook.

* Participants must provide proof of insurance coverage valid in Canada prior to participation in the field trip.
** All participants must sign a liability waiver form that will be provided by SGA prior to participation in the field trip.
*** Participants must have a visa to enter Suriname ahead of the field trip. They should contact the nearest Suriname consulate/ambassy to assure they obtain their visas in time for the field trip
